Top 10 Christmas Gifts for Children
Exit through the Gift Shop Analysis Questions
1. I feel as though this movie was a bit genuine and a bit of a mockumentary, The reason i feel it was genuine was because it shows it was actually produced by Banksy. And it was about something he has a real interest in. The reason I think it was a mockumentary was because after Mr. Brainwash started doing his art show instead of him doing the art himself like most of the other graffiti artists do he paid all these people to do the art for him and he was the one who got the fame and fortune for something he didn't do.
2. The message that the street artists were across to the public was that graffiti is not just something they do for fun it is something they actually care about. And they do their art with an actual message behind it unlike Thierry does.
3. I think Mr. Brainwash was trying to show people that although graffiti is nice and creative it doesn't always have to have a message behind the art piece itself.
4. The street artists work actually has meaning to it and it usually has a message whereas Mr.BrainWash's work is meaningless and it is repetitive with just a few differences. Also Banksy made his art show interesting whereas Mr.Brainwash never even chose where to put the pieces of art himself.
5. The reason the line was so long was because of Banksy and Shepard Fairey promoting the event and that all the people knew how amazing their art work is because they have held their own art shows and they have been pretty successful. The reason so many people came together was that they wanted to see this art show promoted by Fairey and Banksy.
6. I think graffiti is art to a point the only reason i would say that it is not a piece of art is when they cross a line and start doing on people's house without their permission or if they do it to someone else's personal items against that person's will. If someone painted my wall without my permission i would not be too happy because i would have probably been okay with it if they did ask. I think that Shepard Fairey and Banksy are not sellouts, they did what they loved and now they are making money selling their pieces of legally although Banksy still continues to do graffiti. Similarities between Guerilla Marketing and graffiti is that they both have a unique way of getting their message across to the people in the surrounding area.

Leadership Styles Opening Activity
If I was the manager of a store and my employee was constantly late for work and seemed unmotivated while they are at work i work probably ask all the other employee's that i work with what i should do and take a few suggestions like have a one on one meeting with him and confront him on why he is being unmotivated and constantly late and if he doesn't have a good enough reason i would have a vote between all the employee's here at the time of the meeting and if they feel that he should be fired that is what i would do to him. The leadership style i would use is Democratic Leadership because it is the fairest of the three options and plus everyone gets an opinion.

Why is customer service important?
Customer service is important because if a good company does not have good customer service then people will end up just going to a different store because they are not having their concerns dealt with by anyone at that specific store. And if a not so good company has good customer service and treats everyone in the store with respect and answers any questions customers have then more people will be willing to go to this store.

Managers engage in 5 primary activities
Planning deals with chalking out a future course of action and deciding in advance which is the best course of action to take. Organizing is getting everything that the business needs in order to get off the ground. The processes included in organizing is identification of activities, classification of grouping, assignment of duties, delegation of authority and the creation of responsibility, coordinating authority and responsibility relationships. Leading is part of the managerial function which actuates the organizational methods to work efficiently for the achievement of organizational purposes leading has the following elements: Supervision, Motivation, Leadership and Communication. Controlling combines measurement of achievement against standards of correction and makes sure everyone is doing the fair share of work.
The advantages of participative planning is that everything is already done for when you are ready to set everything up and the disadvantages of participative planning is that after everything is finished by a member of the group then they just sit around and make sure everyone else does there job.

What can we take from the WestJet video and put it into our role in the Titans' R' Us store
From this video we can use this to promote the titans r us store in saying that if you buy from this store then you are helping towards making the school a better place for you to learn in. And say that if you are proud to be a titan then instead of going to 711 you should buy from our school store. You do not see the improvements made from the money you give to 711 but you do notice the difference made from your purchase here

Which Product Will Generate the Most Money
I think that food would generate the most money out of the three product types.Because students might go there to get something that they cannot from the cafeteria or the vending machine. And there are items that you can get there that you can not get anywhere else for a cheaper price. People would go for the food items because the prices range from $0.50 to $2.25 meaning no matter what amount of money you have you could always get something.

What I Learned About Marketing From Physics Class First Copy
Dan Cobley said that for Newton's law rearranged to be a= f/m that the more massive the brand the more baggage it has the more force is needed to change it's positioning. Instead of having a huge parent company they would rather have a few smaller brands. A bunch of particles in a dish and you want to look at them and then you shine a light so it doesn't look like the particles are dancing. The act of observing behaviours in a group yet there are companies that don't need them. And surveys that people have done showed that alot of people are going to lie and that they should try to measure what they did instead of what they said they did. Scientific Method: you cannot prove a hypothesis through observation you can only disprove it. You can invest for a long time in a brand but if one bad week happens then that could change everything. Entropy: Is a measure of disorder of a system will always increase. Your brand is more disburse you cannot find a way to fight it but all you should do is just live with it. I learned that even something as compact as physics can be interesting when it is compared to marketing. A question that it made me ask was how could this guy compare physics equations to real life marketing?

Ugliest Christmas Sweater Ideas
- If you buy this sweater ill give you a 10% discount off the next item you buy
- Show them that the sweater keeps you warm even if the weather is -30
- Maybe if they see you wear it and not be afraid of how it looks then they will buy it as well
- Compare someone who wears this sweater in the cold to someone who is just wearing a normal shirt it should show that the christmas one is more warmer.
- Tell them that instead of buying a shirt that you would have to wear a jacket over to be warm you could buy this shirt and not have to wear a jacket over it to be warm.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statements?
- "If goods were sold only for cash, prices would be lower and everyone would be better off." I disagree with this because if people only used cash to buy their items then a lot less people would buy items right away.
- "If I can't pay for something, it means I can't afford it, so I won't buy it." I agree with this because if people stopped using credit cards then there would be less people who are paying back ridiculous interest rates on their credit cards.
- "I buy on credit whenever I can because credit increases sales and is good for businesses." I disagree with this because although it may increase your credit rating you have to pay back the original price plus 20% of interest.
- "You should use credit sometimes: it helps you establish a credit rating, which may be useful in case of an emergency." I agree with this because it does establish a credit rating and it will be useful for times when you actually do need the credit card.

Motivation Opening Activity
Teachers motivate me to work harder by allowing us to work at our own pace and they treat everyone who is in their class equally, If teachers didn't motivate me to work harder then they would not be doing their job. My parents motivates me to work harder by offering me rewards depending on if i can achieve their targeted goals and if i cannot achieve there goals then they won't reward me for coming close. Friends motivate me to work harder because if i don't help them then i would not be a good friend to them. I can use this in my work to help me to challenge myself into achieving a good mark in this class.

Product in decline stage
A product in the decline stage of it's life cycle is the cassette tape. The reason people are not buying cassettes is because of CD's being out now people see this as better because they can use the CD to plug into a place like a computer and be able to burn their music onto their music player. A cassette doesn't allow people to put it into a computer and put that music on your music player. Recommendations for the cassette is that they should bring out a way so that people can transfer their music from their cassette to their computer.

PYP opening activity
I liked that they allowed people to make there own pages of the yearbook and put whatever they felt like putting on it. I wish they would have more options for the user to be creative with their pages (ex. more backgrounds.) This product would appeal to people who are creative and like to use a unique way to remember their high school experiences. We could market them within the school by putting creative posters up, advertising it within our student business if we can (talent show group) and by word of mouth.

Different types of ad's
Types of Ad's
TV ad's
Infomercial
Radio Ad's
Online Ad's
Press Ad's
Billboard Ad's
I like the ad of Nike's which has a hurdler jumping over a billboard with the "You're faster then you think" slogan. I like this ad because it is very creative and they show an professional actually jumping over the hurdle. My least favourite ad is the McDonald's one where they show that they have free wifi at all there locations and they show a McDonald's box on the table. I chose this as my least favorite ad because it really has nothing to do with there company and what they are trying to sell.

Guerrilla Marketing
Guerrilla Marketing is a way that you can advertise products by doing something that is not expected (ex. Nike's ad for there new running shoes and by putting it on the tire of the vehicle it is saying you should walk/run not ride a car. ) The example that I felt was the best was the Volkswagen ad where they show the people who are in the fast lane zooming down the slide where as those who don't go down the slide are slowly walking down the stairs. By that ad I would be able to guess that if you drive a Volkswagen you are getting an efficient vehicle which goes fast.

Consumer Behaviour Analysis Opening Activity
I think they are right about generation Y, because most of the people in this generation are using technology more then ever now and it will become a more technology based society in the future and if companies want to be successful in the future they will have to change the way they advertise themselves like instead of radio and TV i think more companies will become more internet friendly and for those who fail to do this they will not be successful.

Customer Service Opening Activity
This story teaches you that if you are good with your customers then they will be more willing to recommend you or your business to other people, if you don't treat them well then they will not come back and will get there friends to stay away as well. This story teaches you if you are willing to do things differently and better then everyone else and the customers like it then your business will be more successful then if you do things the same and be just like everyone else.

Is it possible for a business to be solvent but not profitable?
Yes, it is possible for a business to be solvent but not profitable because the profits that the business makes can be used to pay off any debt obligations when they are due. Those businesses are smart because if they don't take the time to pay those debts off then they will increase and be more and more each month. And eventually they will just be paying off the minimum amount. If they do that then they can be profitable but they will have more liabilities to pay off the next month. But if they pay those debts off before they get out of hand then they will be profitable the next month when they don't have that debt to pay back.

Business Fundamentals Vocabulary Slideshow
If you don't treat your employees right as an employer then everyone is going to leave and your business is going to close.
A for profit business would be like a house cleaning service where the one person who is doing the cleaning of the house is making the profit. ex. Complete cleaning services
A not for profit business would be like the United Way of Calgary which does fundraisers to get money to help change social conditions and try to create better lives for people who don't have much.
A non-profit business would be like the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation which was made to enhance the healthcare and to reduce extreme poverty worldwide, and in America to expand educational opportunities and to access information technology.
For the 3rd slide you need to have someone who is good at watching the stock market or your stocks will crash and you will not have anyone to blame but yourself.
For the 4th slide, for a business to be successful you need to have more revenue then expenses and it's always better to have a profitable business then a non-profitable business that's causing you to lose money.
For the 5th slide the positive ethical, moral and legal considerations when it comes to using alternative ways of energy instead of oil good but it will cause alot of problems for those provinces like Alberta who depend heavily on their oil industry.
The negative ethical moral and legal considerations when it comes to using alternative ways of energy instead of oil is crazy because there would be alot of job cuts and those people won't be able to live up to the same standards of living as they had before. Alot of those people would also sue the province/country in the hopes they could get there jobs back.
For the 6th slide it shows Bernie Madoff being interrogated about how he came up with the ideas for his Ponzi scheme and his response is from the social security system.
A game that stimulates an economic system by trading in virtual goods is Tycoon Online.

Cash- Cash on hand, Undeposited Checks received from customers.
Petty Cash- small disbursements for little things.
Supplies- Cost of supplies on hand at the time the balance sheet was made.
Inventory- Merchandise that is awaiting to be sold.
Accounts Receivable- Combined amount of debit balance in the accounts receivable account and the credit balance for doubtful accounts. The difference between the balances in these two accounts is the amount of the accounts receivable that is likely to turn to cash.

Accounting Opening Activity
A) An accountant is a practitioner of accounting.
B) An accountants job is to analyze revenues, assets, liabilities, they are also able to calculate future cash flow fairly accurate. Then they make financial reports such as balance sheets, t-accounts, and ledger balances and report them to administrators. Most of there day is spent completing or analyzing paperwork. But communication is also necessary.
C) Auditor,Bookkeeper,Clerk,Financial Assistant, Controller
D)The merged body would have a new designation - the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA). However, upon initial merger implementation the new designation would not take effect. New provincial legislation would have to be enacted before the new designation could be used in the marketplace, a process that would likely take several years. During this period, it was suggested that CGAs would participate in the governance of the organization, but as a minority. It is anticipated that CA members would have formed the majority of the governance group in a three-way merged organization and set the policy, governance and regulations for CGAs.

It is anticipated that CA members would have formed the majority of the governance group in a three-way merged organization and set the policy, governance and regulations for CGAs.

Advertisement Opening Activity
I don't really have a favorite advertisement to be honest, i think all of them are pretty boring. My favorite store is one which sells sporting equipment, i prefer those types of stores because i am a huge sports fan and i think it is important to be safe while playing any sport. The soft drink that i like the best is Crush soda's, i prefer Crush instead of other soft drinks because they have a variety of tastes unlike most pop which has a normal flavor and a diet flavor, and i like all the kinds they have.

Opening Activity October 26th.
Things that are working well is that we agree with each other. I wish that everyone in my group was more cooperative, and willing to contribute to the work instead of one person doing most of the work. I don't think i can work any better then i possibly am right now except for the fact that i allow my group to sit there and let my group do whatever they want. I can encourage my group to work better by being more strict and bossy with them and hoping that they listen to me and not hate me for doing so.

Businesses Bad Reputation
Businesses can end up with a bad reputation if they do something that is not ethical or something that a certain group of people disagree with like using animal fur, sweatshops etc. Bad reputations are not always the businesses fault it could come from an activist group such as PETA or it could be that a certain country doesn't allow products that have animal furs. If a business has a bad reputation they could do things like donate a certain amount from each sale to a group like WWF or give it back to the people who are buying the products in a way like weekly deals or buy one get one half off.

Justin Hall- Tipping: Freeing energy from the grid
I think that Justin Hall's ideas are pretty interesting he is saying basically that there should be a way to use our energy without harming our environment, and that there should be a way to conserve water, He made good points to back up his statements like the little child who died of thirst, plus he showed infrared devices that would allow us to save the energy that everybody in the world has to live with. If we don't start doing something about these two problems then we are going to run out of water and are not going to have any sort of energy.

Opening Activity October 20th 2011- Issac Asimov
I think that Isaac Asimov meant that you shouldn't let your morals keep you from doing what is right, like if you know that somebodies is trying to sell you an item that is stolen then you should not buy the item off of that person because if you do then you are just as guilty as they are, in that case you are supposed to say i am not going to buy this item off you and tell them the reason is because they had stolen it and you don't want to get in any trouble with the law if it does come back as stolen.

What would you do if?
This is what i would do if:
If my friend asked me to add a few extra hours for his work time sheet and i knew he didn't do the time then i would not be giving him the hours that he asked for.
If a salesperson offered to sell me an ipod after hours for a discounted price i would probably do it but get a receipt and then show the store what this salesperson did and hopefully they would be fired.
If the teller gave me back too much money when completing a banking transaction i'd probably keep it(who wouldn't?)

Unethical and Morally Wrong Products
Some products that could be unethical and morally wrong include: Brand Name Items (Ex. Nike). I feel that it is unethical and morally wrong because they make their items in sweatshops and they don't pay their employees any where near how much they sell their items for. I find that unfair because they are the ones who are working and they are being paid next to nothing. For every one item sold, they probably have made enough money to pay everyone in at least one of their sweatshops for the whole entire month.

Occupy Calgary Criticisms
I think that the criticisms about the Occupy Calgary protests are pretty true not once did i hear anything distinguishing the situation in the United States compared to the one in Canada. The one in the United States is way worse then the one in Canada and by those people not showing the difference it shows that they don't really understand what is going on in our own country. Those in the top 1% in Canada make only about $180 000 compared to those in the United States that make 31 million dollars but haven't contributed anything to these protests, if they were to be like okay i am willing to pay more on my taxes then there wouldn't be as big as a problem right now.

Career Fair
I found that most of the College's/Universities that were at the career fair were non-profit organizations.
I also found that most of them go to CALM classes, go to career fairs in order to target there people.
I didn't ask about the enrollment of the Places because there was too many of them that i was interested in seeing what they had to offer about the career's that i am interested in. Viewing those places i had a change in mind in what i want to go to college/university for.

Opening Activity October 12th 2011
The picture has become popular because she is one of the few people who actually agree that it's not fair that the poor people are being treated the same way as those who are rich. This picture actually surprised me because I didn't think that any of the 1% of the people who are richer would agree with the 99% of the people who aren't as rich. But maybe if one person of that small percent see that it is not fair then maybe more people will take notice and agree to do the same. There are alot of people who can afford to give away some of there money but they don't choose to.

Occupy Wall Street- 5 W's
Occupy Wallstreet is about making everything more equal, protesting against the social and economic inequalities, corporate greed and what those businesses use their money for. People who maybe protesting are those who don't have jobs, those who are in the bottom 90% of the income makers.
This is what happened: They started protesting the fact that even though they don't make enough money why do they have to pay the same amount of taxes as a millionaire does. When they think that those who are richer should be paying more taxes.
This is where it took place: The Occupy Wallstreet protests started in New York and has since reached over 70 different cities.
This is when it took place: The protests started on September 17th
This is why it took place: They feel as though it's not fair that the millionaires are paying the same percentage of taxes as those who are poorer.
This is how it happened: The started it over social media, and the worldwide web.

Advertising Opening Activity.
The definition of advertising to me is something a company does to get the attention of a certain group of people, so they can buy their products if they like it.
Give examples of good advertisements: Some examples of good advertising is when automobile companies such as Ford or Chevy have an ad saying that there cars have the most this and that and it makes people stop and say well if they have the best of this then this should be the type of car i get.
What facts or characteristics are true of good advertisements:
I think some characteristics of a good advertisement is that they have to have a clear message, The design has to be simple because people are not going to look at the ad for too long, unless it is eye catching.
Give examples of bad advertisements:
Some examples of bad advertisements include Yahoo they just post there name on a purple background and it doesn't really say anything to those who are looking at it people who are viewing this ad would be like ''what is so good about Yahoo?'' then they would have to check it out themselves in order to see what is good about Yahoo in there opinion.

The Meeting Questions
1) We need to figure out if we are able to use the school's PA, Need to know any outstanding final expenses, Need to figure out if we are going to post the station online and at the school or just one or the other. Figure out the whole stock situation(like if we are going to sell any shares or not?) When we will hold contests, how often we will hold them. Figure out what type of music will be played.
2) We will probably do it all together except the final outstanding expenses and the music which Brandon will do.
3) It will be done on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and if there is anything left to do we will finish it on Monday.
4) We will need to talk to the office staff at the school to seek their permission to use the school's PA system.
Time 22 Minutes.
Goal Setting- Opening Activity.
Why do you want to achieve your business goal?
I want my business to achieve it's goals because then it shows that we worked really hard and we took a lot of time to get our business out there.
Is the business goal energizing?
I feel as though it is energizing because it's nothing over the top for the amount of money we would try to make and also i feel as though we are helping other companies out if they feel like being advertised by us.
What will it look like when you get there?
When we get there i think that our company will be successful in achieving our goals.

Sharon Sandberg Response. Opening Activity
I think that she has her facts mostly correct, I think that there is a shortage of woman at the top of big name companies. I found her to be a little sexist though with her remarks like ''The world would be a better place if there was more female's who were the head of a company'' I also thought that she was basically calling most guys non intelligent, also she thought that most of those guys don't deserve the roles they have in a company. I just think that she should have used examples of guys who own a company who don't really deserve it in her view. Overall Pretty good but she should have been more neutral and not look at it from one side.
Naming a business Opening Activity
Some ideas for improving our name was to:
- Combine Words.
- Pick something that relates to our business.
- Ask listeners what they think of the name.

Break Even Analysis
If this business were to take place over four weeks, how many products do you have to make per night?
How many need to be sold per day? Too break even we would need to make $5.50 per week
Is this reasonable? Yes this is reasonable, because if we charge $5.00 for advertising and we sell raffle tickets for 50cents each then we should be able to easily earn over $5.50 a week
Business Startup - 3 Critical Business Financing Mistakes To Avoid Opening Activity.
I will do my bookkeeping by keeping track of all the expenses and revenues by writing it down on a piece of paper, and then at the end of the month I will do an Microsoft Excel spreadsheet which I will be able to record all the expenses and profits and have a total of the deficits and the profits that my business made during that monthly period. I learned that from doing the projected cash flow it just gives us an idea of how much money we will have to spend in order for this business to get really started. We will ensure that we get paid on time by holding a contest and from all that we will use 90% of the profit to pay for any items we may need and 10% can go to us.

Competition Assignments
My competitions product is advertising, the prices of these ad's vary depending on what you are getting. In Canada the prices of advertising at discounted rates are $100 dollars and for a full week it costs up to $2500, and if the rates weren't discounted then it could cost $1500 and take a few weeks to produce. I didn't get a chance to talk to any staff or customers. They market there good by doing these advertisements only about 9 minutes out of every hour on the radio.

Response to Ray Anderson talking about the logic of sustainability
Ray Anderson was saying that if we don't start living more sustainable now then the people of tomorrow will suffer due to our carelessness. He was also saying that if more people followed the formula that we would already be living more sustainable. He also showed real life examples of his business which i liked because it showed that if you are more sustainable then your company would be better off then if you didn't worry about how sustainable it is your company is more then likely to collapse and your investment will be wasted.

What can you take from this video into your own work?
From this video i can use the ability to poll people by giving them a bunch of options to know what type of music and type of contests that people are interested in participating in, and depending on the amount of students who want to listen to this type of music or do this type of contest we should do it to make most of the people happy, because if they are happy then they are going to get other people to participate in the contest, or there will be more requests for music from the students and it will not only make our job easier to do but we will have more fun doing it plus we can earn more money off those people who are participating in the contests.

Group Contract- Brandon,Trizia,Samuel
We will stay on schedule by coming to class everyday and doing our required work to the best of our abilities, if someone happens to be absent we will try our best to do that person's job as well as our own. We will divide up the duties of the work load equally and if someone doesn't do their work and it becomes a recurring issue they will face consequences. Meetings will last as long as they need to in order for everything to be sorted out.
Brandon- Music list maker, and co-contest organizer
Trizia- co-contest organizer, equipment manager
Samuel- Radio voice
We will need to agree not to take this too seriously and just have fun with the experiance of running a radio station. We will work out disagreements by putting the issue to a vote and the majority will be what we go with.
The most important aspect for this team to work with is:
Brandon- Teamwork and Hardwork
Trizia- Co-operation and Determination
Samuel- Having fun.
